4 Best VPN Services For Bloggers And Online Business Owners For 2018

Last Updated on March 31, 2018 by Fabrizio Van Marciano

I love doing business on the internet, however, I have concerns about my security and privacy online. Personally, I don't want to leave anything to chance or give scammers, spammers, and hackers the opportunity to ruin my experience on the web. That's why I've started to use a VPN. I recommend you should too.

One of the greatest joys of running a blog or online biz is that you can do so from almost anywhere on the planet.

Pretty much everywhere these days offer WiFi or internet hotspots.

But let me ask you something, do you feel safe when using any of these public internet hotspots?

Have you heard of a VPN?

In this post, I'll share with you why I think every smart blogger should consider using a reliable VPN, as well as share with you 4 of the best VPNs currently available for bloggers.

Let's get to it.

One of the things I love doing as a blogger is to write content from the comfort of... well, 'anywhere'.

One of my favorite places to go is my local Starbucks coffee shop which provides very good WiFi. However, recently doing this has started to worry me.

Because of my security and privacy, mostly.

Did you know that by the year 2021, cybercrime will cost the world a jaw-dropping $6 trillion annually?

And, according to this source, the biggest concern for cybercrime in the US is indeed identity theft.

If you're a blogger or run an online business, and if you travel a lot, you should be somewhat concerned, especially if your activities require you to access the public internet.

If you have any doubts about your privacy and security, then there is a solution my friend.

Get yourself set up with a reliable and robust VPN provider.

What is a VPN?

If you're new to all of this and don't know what a VPN is or what it's used for, let me explain very briefly.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network.

Using a VPN can help you protect your identity by hiding your IP and location from third parties, but most crucially, from potential hackers and cybercriminals.

If you run a business online, for instance, and need to send things like important documents, sensitive data, or log into financial accounts of any kind, it's always best to do so over a private secured network when in a public place, right?

Luckily, there are quite a few good VPN service providers available right now, however, choosing the right one can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you're not entirely sure what to look for.

So, the first thing you need to do is some good old research.

How does a VPN work exactly?

When you are online, usually all of your activities, including what websites you visit, what data you enter or download, even your location, and so forth can be monitored.

In public places, for instance, if a public WiFi becomes compromised, you can become at risk of cybercriminal activities without even knowing about it.

A VPN simply adds a multi-layer of security and encryption, using a tunnel system, whenever you send or receive data from your computer to a website.

What to look for when buying a VPN plan

There are a variety of things to look for, however, the main things to keep in mind when searching for the best VPN service for your needs are -

  1. Speed of connection.
  2. Geographical accessibility.
  3. Encryption reliability.
  4. IP and location masking.
  5. P2P support.
  6. Good technical support.
  7. Value for money.

OK, so below I've outlined, what I believe to be, four of the best VPN providers for bloggers and online business owners for 2018.

Take a look at each one before deciding which to use.

1. Private Internet Access

Let me start with the VPN provider that I use myself and recommend, Private Internet Access (PIA).

PIA provides blazing fast VPN solutions with a host of useful features, including -

  • Multiple VPN tunnel gateways.
  • Unlimited bandwidth.
  • P2P support.
  • Privacy and identity protection.
  • Compatability with all mobile and desktop operating systems.
  • Unblock censorship filters, and more...

PIA has more than 3,000 servers located worldwide, so accessibility is good. And, getting set up is instant. I was surprised how quickly I was able to have PIA set up on my MacBook Pro. I was ready to roll within just a few minutes.

PIA offers some of the most affordable packages around.

4. IPVanish

IPVanish is yet another popular and reliable top-tier VPN service provider. In fact, their website goes as far to say that they are the best in the business.

The list of features provided by IPVanish includes -

  1. User-friendly apps for all devices.
  2. Unlimited bandwidth.
  3. Zero traffic logs.
  4. P2P support.
  5. AES encryption.
  6. 24/7 customer support center and more...

Their pricing structure is plain and simple.

You can pay for 1 year at $6.49 per month (Billed at $77.99 per year).

Or, you can pay monthly at $11.99 per month.

Or, you can pay for three months at $8.99 per month (Billed at $26.99 every three months).

Final words

Whoever you decided to use in the end, the main thing is that you actually consider using a VPN.

If you don't feel that you need one just yet, I'm sure that at some stage in the future you will consider signing up.

The web is a wonderful place and offers incredible opportunities for those who are smart enough to know how to use it.

That being said, concerns about privacy, security, identity theft, spam, and all the rest of it are growing issues for a lot of folks.

If you run a blog or online business, my personal recommendation is to start using a reliable VPN as soon as you can.

The best of luck.

  1. Hey Fabz,

This is a wonderful topic! Online security and privacy are becoming major concerns every day. It is only wise to stay as safe and smart as possible.

Thanks for bringing the topic up and thanks for the list.

    1. Hi Jane, how are you?
Yes, I completely agree with you. As much as a wonderful thing the internet is, there are some vulnerabilities we should definitely guard ourselves against, especially as bloggers and online business owners.
      Have a wonderful weekend mate.

  2. Hey Fabrizio,

I have used Nord and ExpressVPN in the past but somehow they slowed down my internet which was a bit frustrating.

PIA seems much better option and will try it.

    Thanks for the information.

    1. Hi Shafi,

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience with NordVPN and ExpressVPN. I've personally experienced no lag in my internet connection using PIA at home, however, I must admit that if I'm using a public WiFi in some places I have experienced a slower connection with them.

I've also heard cases where some public WiFi areas block VPN, not sure whether that's true or not.

Thanks again for stopping by, good luck with trying PIA out.

      Regards, Fabrizio.
