So folks as some of you may already know, being a regular reader or subscriber of my blog, I’m a HUGE fan of Thrive Leads.
OK so I’m a huge fan of Thrive Themes altogether, since I now use all of the current Thrive products to build my blogging business with.
Thrive Leads is the only plugin that I depend on for building my email list, there really isn’t anything else like it on the market today. If you haven’t checked out this amazing tool yet, please read my review and check out my walkthrough video.
This week Shane MeLaugh (Co-Founder of Thrive Themes) and the team have released yet another exciting new feature within Thrive Leads called SmartLinks.
What is SmartLinks
SmartLinks is an advanced feature that allows users to create custom URL’s for pages or blog posts targeted at your most loyal subscribers and blog readers.
Here’s what I mean:
You already showcase a host of email opt-in forms on your blog for none-subscribers, but what happens when those already subscribed to your blog comes back to check out your latest posts, perhaps via a link from your email newsletter?
They see the same opt-in forms and pop-up forms as they did before they subscribed to your blog!
Why would they need to see those forms when they’re already subscribed to your email list? Well the answer is they simply don’t need to seem them, and with the new SmartLinks feature in Thrive Leads, you can now create custom URL’s for any post or page, and paste them into your email newsletter.
When a subscriber clicks on one of these SmartLinks to read your latest post for example, they’ll be greeted with a nice clean, clutter free post with no opt-in forms or pop-up forms to interrupt them, just the value you deliver in your content.
Sounds amazing doesn’t it?
How does SmartLinks work.
Once again, this new advanced feature is only available in the Thrive Leads list building plugin.
This feature is so easy to start using, and I’ll explain the most basic method of creating and using SmartLinks, although I do recommend you check out the video Shane has put together to get the most from this feature.
OK so let’s assume you have Thrive Leads installed on your blog. So the next time you create an email newsletter to notify your list subscribers of your latest blog post, instead of just linking to the post itself within the email, you first create a SmartLink within the Thrive Leads dashboard. To start you simply click on the ‘Link Icon’ to get started. See image below.
The SmartLinks option box will open and you’ll see this:
So let me guide you through the steps so you can get a basic understanding of how to use this feature within Thrive Leads.
Step One: Define where you want to send your visitors – The first step is to define where you want to send your visitors, in other words, the page or post you want to create a SmartLink for. You can select blog homepage, blog index, post, page or custom URL. As you can see from the screen grab above, I’ve selected ‘post’ type and the name of the post itself.
Step Two: Which lead groups would you like to target – So you’ve selected ‘post’ type and title of post to send your visitors to, now you you need to tell Thrive Leads which groups you want to target. I won’t explain too much what groups are in this post, however within Thrive Leads you can create multiple groups of lead generation forms. Read my review of Thrive Leads to learn more about this.
So in the screen grab above you’ll see that I’ve selected ‘I want to target all forms on my site’. You can choose to target certain lead groups for example, if you’re sending to a targeted list or targeting specific content on your blog.
Step Three: Depends on whether you select ‘target specific groups’ in step two. If you select ‘target all forms’ for instance, this option will auto select all forms.
Step Four: How do you want the forms to behave? – Here you have the option to ‘hide all forms’ for your subscribers, or display the ‘already subscribed’ state of the form. If you’re confused I’ll explain quickly: The ‘hide all forms’ option is pretty self-explanatory, your subscribers won’t see any forms when they click on the SmartLink to your post.
However in Thrive Leads you can create different states for each form (See image above). The default state is your opt-in form itself as you design it, you can create an alternative state for example welcoming returning visitors called ‘already subscribed’. Here’s mine below for example:
As you can see from the image above, the sidebar option has two states. State 1 is my opt-in form, state 2 is my welcome back message. I can use SmartLinks to create URL’s that take my existing email subscribers to State 2, being the welcome back page.
Step Five: How long should this behaviour last for? – This is where you can select how long you want the SmartLink to function for. You can choose from: only once, until the visitor closes the browser tab, a custom period of time, or for as long as possible.
If you’re promoting your latest blog post for instance, you might want to select ‘for as long as possible’.
Once you’ve made your selections on this form, you can go ahead and copy your SmartLink URL and past it into your email newsletters to send to your existing subscribers.
I’ve only touched the basics of what this advanced feature can do
Yes I have literally just demonstrated the very basics here, there’s plenty more possibilities with the SmartLinks feature within Thrive Leads. Do watch the video below to learn more about the Thrive Leads plugin and how it can be used to help you take your list building to the next level for your blog, or your business.
In my opinion this is a hugely massive step in innovation by the Thrive team, what a great feature and I’ve already started to implement it into my list building. I’ll leave you to check out the video by Shane Melaugh below, and please, if you haven’t already done so and you’re serious about list building, do check out Thrive Leads, click here to learn more.
