OK let's get started with November's pick of the month.
Pick Of The Month #1 - Is It Really Time To Kiss Facebook Goodbye In 2015?
Let's start with Facebook being in the news once again during the month of November. This piece of news affects us folks with business pages.
Just when you thought your organic reach on Facebook couldn't get any worse, Facebook announced they are making some additional changes with regards to promotional content being shared on Facebook (business pages).
As from January 2015, promotional content shared on Facebook pages will have even greater reduced visibility. Facebook says this action is the result of an ongoing survey the company is conducting to make news feed even better for it's users. This affects organic content and not ads by the way.
So here's my take on this OK people?
To me all this really means is that, all those lovely fans I've built up on my Facebook page over the years, they'll basically have even less value than they had before, no offence to any of you amazing people following me on Facebook! I appreciate you more than Facebook does, but you're a fan of my page and the content that I share with you, yet most of you probably don't see the content I share with you on this page... Yup all this is set to take effect as from January 2015, especially for business pages that promote to sell.
This really gripes me with Facebook, I've spent a lot of time, money and resources growing my Facebook audience throughout 2014, no doubt as most other bloggers and businesses have too, all to have even less opportunity to market and promote relevant products and services to my fans? Smells like daylight robbery to me...
"OK Facebook can I have my money back for all the wasted ads that I put up to build my audience? What's the point if they can't see my stuff? I've paid you for nothing to get nothing back..."
Maybe I don't understand any of this properly, does it sound like I'm moaning too much? If someone can help me out with understanding how and why Facebook feels the necessity to reduce our reach and opportunities with our fans on business pages, then please do help me understand, without the politics that is.
So here's the real effing deal here people...
If you're going to continue to use Facebook for business in 2015, you need to up the engagement game and ease back on the promoting to sell game. That's what Facebook says anyway!
I apologise I'm getting ahead of myself here, if you want to learn in greater detail how this move by Facebook affects you as a blogger or business, check out the following amazing post on JonLommer.com below, it's a great read and really helps to clarify things.
Oh, and if you think bloggers aren't affected at all by this move, we are! When it comes to promoting our own products and services, and maybe even third party products we want to recommend to our fans too, we're going to get penalised...
I see more likes on my Facebook posts... Woo hoo!!!
Admittedly I've seen a gradual increase in reach for my Facebook posts over the last 12 months, and increase in number of likes per post, however I should also mention that I've been running ads continuously to grow my fan-base (increase targeted Likes) as well.
I have noticed the moment that my ads are turned off, content that I share suddenly has reduced visibility, and I get less likes, zero shares and zero comments. If that's common knowledge, I never knew until now.
As from January I'll be stopping the ads and reducing my activity on Facebook altogether, mainly to concentrate on other social media platforms that are working for me. I cannot waste my valuable time on something that doesn't work for my business. Most of the engagement and connections I make on social media happens mostly through Google+ and Twitter, how about you folks?
Going back on my word...
I know that I said I would continue to use Facebook in 2015 when I shared with you my blog strategy tips for 2015 in this post, but I've clearly changed my mind and opinion about Facebook for business just this month. It's time I could be spending on something that's WORKING for my business, and Facebook hasn't really. So what about you folks, are you going to continue promoting your brand, content, products and services on Facebook as much as you have been in 2014, or more, or less?
Pick Of The Month #2 - I really underestimated the true power of blog commenting!
OK let's move on to the next awesome piece of content, this next post was published on Adrienne Smith's blog titled: How Blog Commenting Can Help You Thrive, it was written by a guest blogger called Maxwell Ivey. You can read that post by clicking the link a little bit further below.
First let me tell you how this post really inspired me, and if you're reading this Adrienne and Maxwell, thank you!
I've always valued the importance of blog commenting for blog promotion, but until I read two great things this month, I really underestimated the power of using strategical blog commenting to connect with influential bloggers, strengthen relationships and effectively grow a community of my own. I've really struggled with that as you will no doubt notice from the lack of comments I get on my posts in general. I certainly hope it's not because my content is crap and boring... 🙁
The first great thing that I read was of course Maxwell's guest post (link below), totally inspiring and really motivated me to take blog commenting seriously. Through that post and me leaving a comment, I was also able to connect with Maxwell, learn more about him and his blog, he visited my blog and I visited his. Since then I've even purchased his eBook Leading You Out Of The Darkness Into The Light, which I can't wait to start reading. If you're interested you can find his book here: https://maxwellivey.selz.com/
All this was achieved through blog commenting!
The second great thing that I read was of course Adrienne's Blog Community Building Course (aff), I won't talk too much about it because I'm writing a review and posting it here next week (Monday 8th December). In the meantime check out that amazing post on Adrienne's blog below.
Pick Of The Month #3 - I Just Don't Know What To Write In The Comment Box!!!
Is it fear or shyness that compels you not to leave a comment?
Another fantastic post I read this month, on the subject of blog commenting again, can be located on Nathan Ambrose's blog. Nathan shares some pretty solid examples of what might be going through your head, whilst reading an article. You've got to check them out here.
Pick Of The Month #4 - Neil Patel Is The Undisputed King Of Data-Driven Content!
OK so the third post I want to share with you folks you're really going to love. If you missed this one, do check it out.
Most of you will probably already know Neil Patel, the undisputed king of creating epic data-driven content. In the following post I'm sharing with you, Neil shares some great insights into how he carried out A/B testing on one of his blog posts, to get 247% more people reading his content, and ultimately how you can do the same, it's a strategy that's very simple to do, but most bloggers probably aren't doing it. I highly recommend you read the post here.
Pick Of The Month #5 - At A Crossroads In Your Life And Seriously Thinking About A Career Change? Perhaps You Have No Other Choice!
Right, let's move on... The next post I want to share with you was published on one of my favourite sites, Entrepreneur.com
I stumbled upon this post shared from a tweet by @timbo1973 Thanks Tim of Tim-Bonner.com 🙂
Anyway this was a great read, and for anyone thinking about a change in direction career wise, perhaps you've had enough of your old job, or you're sadly about to get laid off and have no idea what's next for you (Maybe it's time to unleash the entrepreneur in you, or take that risk and turn your part-time blogging business to the next level!). In any case, read the post below by Deborah Mitchell, she'll provide you with some sound advice on what you need to do. Great article Deborah! I seriously doubt she'll be reading this...
Pick Of The Month #6 - A Free Online Course On How To Build Email Landing Pages And Sales Pages Quickly!
Lastly but not least, earlier this month I posted a video on my YouTube channel sharing with you a free but valuable mini online course called 'Rapid'. The course is brought to you by the nice folks over at Thrive Themes. You can check out my video a little bit further below.
If you're a regular reader of my blog, you'll know how much I love using the Thrive Content Builder and Thrive Landing Pages plugin, it's been an amazing plugin for me, and has helped me increase my email opt-ins tremendously.
You can read my full review of that plugin here and how it can help your online business or your blog too. In fact this very blog post was created using the Thrive Content Builder plugin (aff). I like using it to create blog posts from time to time because I love the way it organises my content neatly.
Anyway this free online course will teach you a system for building email landing pages and sales pages very quickly. Shane MeLaugh (Co-Founder of Thrive) and company also explains why speed in this case, is more important than quality, you can sign up to the free course here.
The course contains useful video tutorials, PDF's and other downloadable material, plus bonus material. Everything in the course is 'actionable', regardless of what software you're using to create your website or your landing and sales pages with. I found great value in the course myself, so I highly recommend signing up, plus it's completely free, so it's a win-win...
OK folks that is it for November's pick of the month, as I mentioned at the start of this resource post, if you want to share something worthy of a shout out, something you feel we'll all value from in any way, please do share your links in the comment section below this post, but seriously no spamming. Any irrelevant crap will be deleted.
I won't be publishing a resource post in December since I'll be too busy celebrating, eating, drinking and being darn merry with the family and in-laws... The next resource post will be at the end of January, and boy that should be a big one!
Please leave me a comment below regarding anything I've talked about in this post, whether it's regarding your Facebook page, the links I've shared, questions about the free online course, what ever's on your mind, let it out! I look forward to reading them.
In the meantime, enjoy the links, happy blogging and have a safe and productive week 🙂
