Boy it’s been a heck of a while since I’ve posted one of these things huh?
Folks, I really will try and stick to keeping them to ‘monthly’ in the future, it’s just that December was so darn hectic what with Christmas and travelling away for two weeks and other commitments, I simply ran out of time and couldn’t get a Pick Of The Month out for the end of December.
Anyway I decided at the start of the new year that I would have to do a double-whammy Pick of the Month for January, incorporating December’s pick too, so in all it’s glory, here’s my selection of top ‘golden’ unmissable posts from the last 60 days!
What the heck is this?
If you’re visiting here for the first time then you’re probably a little confused about what this post is actually about, let me explain.
My Pick Of The Month is basically a medley of amazing blog posts and articles that I’ve stumbled upon on my travels across the blogosphere in the last 60 days. Most of the posts are from blogs that I try and follow regularly.
Anyway each month I put what I believe to be ‘the best posts’ together, and present them to you on a silver platter, just in case you happened to miss any of these gems yourself, I know how busy you can get with your own blogging duties and commitments.
OK I won’t waste anymore of your time, let’s dive straight in.
Pick Of The Month For December
Here are 4 amazing stand-out posts that I found and read during the month of December. Of course there were countless others too, but these 4 posts were either useful or very thought provoking.
Blogging For Beginners: What Was Your Biggest Mistake (33 Bloggers Speak Out) – The first post I’ve selected for POTM December, is this awesome resource post put together by Sue Ann of SuccessfulBlogging.com.
I was so fortunate and honoured to have been approached by Sue way back in November, to be included in this lineup with these 32 other amazing bloggers.
Naturally I was also very happy to have had the opportunity to share my blogging mistake as a newbie, but more importantly to be able to read about other bloggers and their first mistakes, and to connect with some of them.
If you missed that post, do check it out. Thank you Sue to have included me 🙂
How To Optimise A Website With Low Traffic – OK so the next post that stood out for me in December, and one that was particularly useful, was this little number featured over on the Thrive Themes website.
The post was written by Shane Melaugh co-founder of Thrive Themes, someone who also knows a thing or two about conversion optimisation.
Here Shane shares three valuable tips for optimising a website that has low traffic, perhaps a relatively new website or a website that hasn’t had much in the way of promotional work done on it. Anyway, definitely worth a check out, you’ll also find a host of other awesome content on the Thrive Blog too, and of course don’t forget to check out the awesome Thrive Content Builder (aff) plugin.
What You Can Track Using Google Analytics For Optimisation – So the third post that stood out for me during the month of December was this one by Mr Sherman Smith over on his blog at ShermanSmith.com
Google Analytics is an amazing tool as we know, but I have to admit there are some seriously overwhelming parts of GA that confuses me even to this day, so for anyone new, where do you even start? Well in this post Sherman highlights and best describes 7 key metrics you should be focusing on within Google Analytics, head over there to check them out.
Avoid Distractions From Your Online Business – Now this post was actually published back at the very end of November by Joy Healey over on her blog at JoyHealey.com, however I did stumble upon it in early December, and because it was such a great read, and I really could relate to this, I had to have it in December’s pick.
In this post Joy shares some of the types of distractions we face when balancing work with life. If anyone is thinking about starting an online business from home, or can relate to balancing work with life commitments, this post should be a great read for you. Joy also shares some tips on how to focus when starting an online business, a definite must read.
Roll on January…
OK so that was December 2014’s pick, now let me share with you 3 amazing posts that really stood out for me during the month of January 2015.
Hey I know it’s only 3 posts but here’s the truth of it. I’ve not had too much time to spend reading many blogs and commenting on them. In fact I started off the whole month really slow, I’m sure I’ll catch up and get back into the swing of things during February.
It’s Not When You Make Goals, It’s How – Now at the start of the year we all set about setting goals and objectives for our blogs, online businesses and personal goals too. From a blogger’s perspective, it’s all well and good saying your goal is to start increasing traffic, or you want to increase Facebook fans, or you want to start making more money, but really, how are you going to construct such goals and measure your success, let alone stick with them?
Have no fear my buddies, because Sylviane Nuccio shares a powerful 5-step process that will help you with your goal planning in her post over on her blog, another post well worth the time to read, and a motivational one too.
Do You Want Traffic From Google? Then Build A Community! – The next stand out post for January comes from top man Don Purdum from Unveil The Web. This is a guest post that Don has written and is featured on the SemRush blog, he discusses the importance of building a blog community (aff), and how it lends a huge helping hand in driving traffic from Google.
Don’s been able to achieve massive success with his own blog and building a loyal community over at Unveil The Web, so if you’re interested in increasing traffic (who’s not these days), you’d better check out his post and see what he’s got to say.
Just out of interest as well, Don’s guest post was well received with a ton more comments and social shares than most other posts on the SemRush blog, the proof is right there, where Don goes, so does his community!
How To Create A Unique Product In 30 Minutes – OK the last stand out post I have for you for January 2015 is this very clever little idea presented by Mi Muba over on BeAMoneyBlogger.com
If you’ve never heard of a LinkoTorial, then you’re going to love this concept. Creating an eBook takes a lot of time and effort, but a LinkoTorial can be just as powerful and takes far less time to put together, definitely something I might even try myself in the future with this blog. Check out Mi’s post to learn more.
OK so there you have it folks, that just about wraps up another edition of Pick Of The Month. I seriously need to come up with a cooler name than ‘pick of the month’, so if any of you have any ideas, don’t be shy, get your creating hat on and throw your suggestions at me, leave me a comment below.
So if you’ve read any of these posts, let me know what you thought of them, if you haven’t, go off and read them now!
Enjoy the rest of the week, and the weekend is just around the corner, take care.
