If you’re anything like me, you publish an awesome blog post and you can’t wait to make a start on the next one, then that’s great! It shows you’re passionate about blogging, and passionate about wanting to write, what’s so bad about that?
Well unfortunately there are some pitfalls to being “over motivated” and writing lots of posts all the time, or simply taking too much on! One of these pitfalls is… You’ve guessed it! Running the risk of ‘burning out’, or hitting the wall.
I’ve hit this wall several times in my 5 years of blogging, it happens, we’re not machines, and it’s hard to get out of sometimes, because when you’re not motivated to write anything at all, or do anything with your blog, trust me, you simply won’t do it.
Over the course of time though, I’ve been able to find ways to motivate myself and get inspired to blog, and I’d like to share with you 5 of those ways in today’s post, so let’s get to it.
Oh by the way, before I forget to mention this, there’s an awesome eBook that I’ve read that I really think you’ll enjoy reading too. It’s called 31 Days To Finding Your Blogging Mojo by Bryan Allain. It’s quite an old book and chances are you’ve probably already read it, if you haven’t, it’s a great read and well worth the time and money. You can find that book on Amazon here (Amazon Link).
OK so let me share with you those 5 things I love to do to get inspired to blog.
(Drum roll please…)
#1. Read a great book – Like the one I mentioned above, I love reading books and eBooks, and at present I have quite a few on my reading list.
Currently I’m reading the Blogging From Paradise books by Ryan Biddulph, The Shift by Don Purdom and the amazing and highly recommended ‘The One Thing’ by Gary Keller, what a great book! Here are the links to those books below, again available on Amazon.
Reading books don’t just inspire you, but they also educate you. Useful for self-improvement and helping you move forward with your goals, what ever they may be, business or personal, so yes, reading books greatly get’s my blogging mojo flowing and keeps me motivated, which is what it’s all about right?
What books are you reading at the moment? Do share some titles with me in the comments below.
#2. Read my most popular posts – Sometimes all it takes is for me to read a few of my best or popular blog posts to get me into the mood for writing, I see the number of social shares and comments those posts got and that’s enough to get me thinking about my next post.
How often do you actually look at your old posts? Be honest, if it’s not something you do that often, I do recommend you do it from time to time. Not only can it inspire you to blog, but looking at your previous work can also spark off some new post ideas for you.
#3. Exercise – You read that right! Because sitting in front of a blank screen for an hour or more deciding what to write about, or trying to muster the motivation to write whilst sipping on your 5th cup of coffee of the day, is simply not healthy. Instead what you could be doing is some exercise to inspire you.
Yep you heard right again, get away from that darn computer and start moving those limbs and get your heart pumping!
Keeping fit is very important, especially if you’re the kind of blogger that sits to work for long endless hours on end. I’ve been there and done that, and burnt the t-shirt in the process too… It’s not good!
During the day I’m busy looking after my two kids, I’m not blogging, so they keep me on the move constantly.
We’re always going off to the park, going to playgroups and strolling down by the harbour, our house is literally on the sea front, we do lot’s of activities.
In the evenings, 3 times per week, I’m at the gym for roughly around 40 minutes, and you’d be surprised how regular exercise gets you thinking about blogging and writing your next epic post in a creative way. Or even thinking about what to focus on next with your blog.
By the time I’ve sat down in front of my computer around 8 or 9pm to start blogging, I’m ready to write something! That’s the best time I’m at my most creative, I know some people are better creative in the mornings or in the afternoon, for me it’s the evenings. What about you?
I do believe that exercising regularly makes you feel a lot more positive, and certainly boosts your motivation.
Do you exercise? And do you find that it helps keep you motivated to blog or write or do anything else? Do let me know in the comment section below!
#4. Get outside or do something ELSE… – Similar to point 3 with exercising, but you don’t have to go for a 10 mile run just to get inspired to blog. You can simply get out of the house, get some fresh air and go for a nice long walk instead, or wash the car, or do some gardening or whatever.
Walking or cycling is what most people enjoy doing these days, and it’s good for you too. Pushing a twin buggy up a hill with two toddlers in it, is pretty hard going too I can tell you.
What I love to do sometimes is plug myself into my iPod and listen to some of my favourite blogging / online business podcasts, especially if I’m going off for a solo walk or a run. I’m sure a lot of you folks do that too. Hey it’s killing two birds with one stone right?
#5. Read success stories – Finally, and this one’s a really great way to get inspired to blog, and that’s reading other bloggers and influential peeps success stories.
Reading the success stories of other bloggers helped me to start over in blogging over a year ago, and I regular like to visit and read the same story over, to remind myself that it’s so worth doing what I’m doing, and the passion I have for it.
The biggest encouragement I get from reading other success stories is the thought of someday, I could be writing my own success story to motivate others, now that’s worth getting inspired about isn’t it?
Your turn to have your say!
So there you have it peeps, 5 simple ways that I find effective for getting my blogging mojo back up, for getting inspired to blog. Now I’d love to hear what YOU do and get up to, to get motivated to write when you’re feeling down and out.

Thanks for reading, have an awesome weekend and Easter break.
Just a heads up, I’ll be publishing a post every 5 days for the next few months, so the next blog post will be out on 7th April and then the next one 12th April and so on 🙂
