About 3 months ago I made the decision to remove comments from this blog entirely, for the second time ever in my blogging career.
My intention was to permanently remove comments for good. Reason being as I mentioned at the time, I felt that I had no time to commit to moderating and responding to comments anymore. And rather than ignore commentators, I thought I’d remove the facility of leaving comments altogether.
Life was pretty hectic back then to say the least, both in my business and in my personal life.
One of the many things that was taking up a lot of my time and not really moving me forward, was the moderation of comments. And then there’s responding to each and every one I approved.
Everyday I’d spend a good few hours moderating and responding to comments, not just on this blog, but on all my other niche websites as well.
Being a work busy from home dad, this left me with very little time for other things that needed my attention both in my business and life.
I know I didn’t get very many comments to begin with, but many of the comments I was receiving were mini posts in themselves, so you can imagine how long it took to read and respond to just 3 or 4 comments each day. I just didn’t have the time anymore.
I still don’t know how other bloggers who receive 10, 20, 30 times more comments, manage to find time to respond to every single comment on their blogs, and most of their responses are lengthy comments too. I take my hat off to them, because they really must be sitting at their computers all day just responding to comments.
The positive side of not having to worry about comments
Anyway, the time I took off from not having to worry about responding to comments on my blog was great I won’t lie. It gave me a lot of time to think about the direction of my blog and how I was going to move forward.
I was able to organise things better, complete many of my goals which I set out at the beginning of 2015; including restructuring the site, fine tuning my online services, completing eBook projects, and updating almost all of the posts and pages on Magnet4Blogging.
I was also able to take on a few extra client projects which was great too.
I learned some valuable lessons whilst not allowing for comments on my blog as well, the biggest lesson being that comments are an important part of the DNA structure of any successful blog, and without comments it felt as if my blog had become a bit of a ghost town.Without blog comments, it felt as if my blog had become a bit of a ghost town...Click To Tweet
Following trends sometimes isn’t a good idea. In this instance, just because other bloggers are removing comments from their blogs, it doesn’t mean you have to go and do the same. Removing comments might work for them, but I’ve learned that it hasn’t really worked out for me and my community.
Commenting is back!
So it gives me great pleasure to be bringing back comments on Magnet4Blogging, and although I know it’s a time consuming activity, and providing services through my blog takes a huge chunk of my time these days, I realise it’s important to make time for engaging with my audience as well.
I’d like to think that I’m a lot more organised both in my business and my personal life than I was 3 months ago, it’s amazing what you can get done when your kids starts going to school right?
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience, your continued support and loyalty. I appreciate you as always, happy blogging and I’m very looking forward to reading your comments here again and engaging with you lovely peeps – Feel free to leave me your comment below.
