First of all, Happy New Year to all of my loyal readers, followers, subscribers etc. If you’re visiting for the first time today, Happy New Year to you too and a warm welcome to my blog, I hope you’ll stick around. It’s really great to be back after a nice Christmas break, and here’s to another successful year with your blog or your online business in 2015, I’m with you every step of the way.
I read countless amazing blog posts throughout 2014, too many to recall, but back in November, I read one particular, and one truly inspirational guest post over on Adrienne Smith’s blog by a guy called Maxwell Ivey. The post was titled “How Blog Commenting Can Help Your Blog Thrive”, I featured that post back in November’s pick of the month. That post meant a lot to me because before then, I wasn’t doing much blog commenting at all, and after reading and implementing, I really saw the benefits, and connected with tons of new bloggers.
Anyway it was on that very post I left a comment for Max, and with that I made a great new friend in the blogging world.
If you’ve not yet come across this guy, I’ll be surprised, because Max, also known as the blind blogger, is one of the most inspirational and most influential entrepreneurial blogger’s I had the pleasure in connecting with in 2014, he’s also been featured on many blog’s including Adrienne Smith’s blog, Enstine Muki’s blog here and Mad Lemmings blog, in an awesome podcast which you can tune into here.
Over the Christmas break, I was able to catch up on some book reading, and one particular book was of course Max’s book called “Leading You Out Of The Darkness, Into The Light”, which deservingly is the focus of my first book review to kick start 2015, and trust me, this is a very appropriate book for the New Year.
A little bit about Maxwell Ivey Jr, the Blind Blogger
Before I dive into the book itself, I want to briefly tell you a little bit about this guy Maxwell, I won’t dive too deep because I want YOU to head over to his blog and discover more about the man yourself, and also connect with him there, if you already haven’t done so that is.
Maxwell Ivey is a 48 year old entrepreneur and the chief editor over at his personal blog TheBlindBlogger.net. Maxwell is almost entirely blind, but that hasn’t stopped him from storming through the blogosphere like a rogue freight train with a serious intention to make some noise, if that isn’t an inspiration then I don’t know what is.
Maxwell grew up in a family of carnival owners, and at a time before discovering blogging and entrepreneurship, his dreams was to continue the legacy of his grandfather’s and father’s business. However following the early death of his father, after suffering from lung cancer, Maxwell turned to helping people sell amusement equipment. To do this he of course started a website and a blog to help him promote the site and reach out to like minded people to promote the business, his business website and blog is called MidwayMarketplace.com, do check it out.
After inspiring many other folks in the blogosphere with his blog and website, and receiving a host of comments and praises, Maxwell suddenly discovered that his destiny was yet to be fulfilled… Max entered the internet entrepreneurial and blogging world with a second blog, a personal blog called TheBlindBlogger.net, where he loves to help people find success online by sharing his personal strategies, personal insights, and more over, inspire many others, whether they have a disability or not, to make something of themselves. I know that Max has already inspired many people.
You can learn more about Maxwell over on his about page here.
Leading You Out Of The Darkness And Into The Light… The book.
Leading You Out Of The Darkness is a book that combines Maxwells truly inspirational story, his journey into entrepreneurship, his personal experiences and insights, with sound tips and advice for taking the leap yourself, making a change, assessing your current situation, realising your goals, your dreams and ambitions, and actively taking action, taking baby steps to help you get closer to your ultimate goal, what ever that may be, whether it’s a personal goal or a business goal.
The book is a very easy read, well written and nicely organised. The book contains around 40-pages, 11 steps or chapters, you can literally dive into any relevant part of the book and start reading, however I’d highly recommend you you get this book and read from start to finish, because Maxwell has set up some great exercises for you to do at the end of each chapter, exercises that will help you make real progress and get closer to reaching your goal. Each step connects with the next step nicely.
Who is this book for?
This book is ultimately for anyone looking for real motivation, moreover it’s for anyone who wants to take action today, and not just be motivated! Maxwell will take you by the hand and guide you, all whilst sharing with you his inspiring story along the way. It’s really like meeting a wise old man who becomes your friend along the way in your journey to finding success, (no offence intended with the word ‘old’ Max lol)
One of the things that Max often refers to in his book is:
…to step out of your comfort zone… and to take action…
Personally I can really relate to that, I mean that’s powerful stuff right there, and if you’re new to all of this and need it translating into entrepreneurial lingo, it simply means:
“We sometimes have to do the things we’re not comfortable with doing to reach our desired goals…”
And this book touches on several instances, where Maxwell shares his experiences in stepping outside of his comfort zone.
It’s so easy for anyone to say they’re going to do something or that they’re going to make an effort to change something in their lives, to reach a goal, but most of the time our ambitions end up out of the window or we put things off for the inevitable, for ‘later on’ and we all know that ‘later on’ never materialises to anything these days. If you want to take action, plan your strategies and reach your goals and get motivated with guidance, get Max’s book, it’s a darn good read.
Quite literally leading you…
When I was reading this book, I quite literally felt compelled to want connect with the author, of course I’ve been connected with Max since November, but what I’m trying to say is that Max has written this book in such a friendly manner, and even within the exercises themselves, he asks you to email him now and again with your goals, your progress etc. He really cares about your progress and encourages the connection, the relationship. He wants to help you do more than just read a book, he wants you to take action and unconditionally wants to guide you by the hand to ensure you’re making true progress. That’s something you won’t find reading very many motivational books out there I can tell you.
…And all of this help and guidance is being offered by someone who can barely see himself, if you’re not inspired by that then nothing will inspire you.
From influencer to a darn good friend…
Over the last few weeks I’ve learned a lot about Max, I read his amazing story, I learned about his passion and courage to not just want to succeed himself, but to want to help others succeed too.
We’ve been emailing each other over the holidays and I can honestly say we’ve become good friends in such a short time, and all from what sparked off as just a simple blog comment, just goes to prove the power of blog commenting huh?
Reading Max’s book over the holidays literally left me so pumped and motivated, I couldn’t wait to get back into the swing of things in the New Year.
I started implementing some of his exercises straight away to help me better understand, realise, appreciate, plan and reach some of my own personal goals in life. Funny thing is I realised that one of my goals for 2015 (believe it or not), is to actually get more sleep, or at least to be in bed by midnight every night.
Buy his book, connect with Maxwell, be inspired…
I don’t care what your background is, I just know that reading Max’s book will help you and inspire you like it inspired me. I know you’ll love connecting with the man himself too, such a great guy, knowledgable, resourceful and down to earth. I’ve since passed his book on to my partner Samantha, I just know she will love reading it too.
So here’s the deal folks, if you’re looking for real motivation to start something, or to even finish something you started, this is the book to read.
Stop lurking around in the shadows, stop putting off your goals, your ambitions, your dreams, start taking action today, do something special that will get the wheels rolling in motion, start by reading Leading You Out Of The Darkness, Into The Light by my good friend Maxwell Ivey.
