So you're a bit of a perfectionist huh, welcome to the club!
If you're anything like me, you have to keep tweaking things, chopping and changing things until you've found perfection, or almost close to it, then you're a bit of a perfectionist.
There's nothing wrong with that at all, it just shows that you take pride in your work and that you want to provide the very best possible.
I started redesigning my blog's homepage back in November, and if you've been following my blog, you'll know that I've been tweaking it and changing things here and there constantly over the last 5 months, until recently where I achieved exactly what I was looking for and stopped tweaking.
Whilst it's important to work at things until you've reached a certain level of satisfaction, trying to be a "perfectionist" can actually do more harm than good in blogging and online business.
Only recently I fully realised this myself, having spoken to a few people online about their efforts, I've heard things like:
"Oh I'm waiting until I've perfected my email landing page before I decide to launch it and make it live on my blog!"
I also spoke to good friend of mine about building a website recently, and during that conversation I was told this:
"I can't launch my site until I've found the absolute perfect design and look, I want everything to be perfect before I launch it"
He's been working on his site for coming up to 16 months now... Sorry Philip if you're reading this, just had to mention you 🙂
Perfection is always a work in progress
Waiting until you've achieved perfection is all well and good, but here's the deal with this tactic; Being a perfectionist can ruin your chances of making progress with your blog, or even finding success!
Being a perfectionist can ruin your chances of making progress with your blog.
Why and how?
Because just when you think you've achieved perfection in what ever it is you're trying to do, you go and change something else, and then something else again and the process never ends...
There's always going to be something that needs tweaking, chopping and changing and adjusting and what not.
Look, why wait until your email landing page is perfect before you launch it? You could be missing out on potential new subscribers to your blog or website!
Why wait until your sales page is almost perfect before you unleash it? You could be missing out on potential new customers and sales!
Why wait until you have at least 100 people on your email list before you send off your first newsletter? You could be missing out on traffic, engagement and even a few more sales.
Perfection is a work in progress, in the meantime don't be afraid to throw anything out there to test the water.
What ever you're working on, whether it's your email landing page, sales page or blog homepage redesign, a free report, products of services, whatever it is, you can always make small changes behind the scenes.
More over, you'll be able to get some real feedback and practical criticism from your users, audience, readers etc, so that you'll know where to make improvements along the way.
All the time you're "waiting to achieve perfection", you could be destroying your chances of making real progress or finding success with your blog or your online business, stop perfecting and make something happen today!
